Ironically, the last post on the DFW Gaelic League website six years ago stated “Unfortunately due to circumstances that arose we have had to cancel this Spring’s Immersion Workshop. However! We have rolled our deposit and commitments to the Fall. This is not the end!” But then there was nothing more…EVER, on the website apparently. There is a little activity still on their Facebook group and it appears there is still interest out there. Some have even expressed an interest in teaching again but cite transportation issues as an obstacle that must be overcome. I, once joined the DFW Gaelic League years ago and even bought one of their T-Shirts which I still have, faded though it may be now.

But, alas, I never made it to any of their classes because they were always held at times I either had to work or had other obligations. From what I have gathered they were still holding classes at Lucky Dog Books in Dallas up until the Covid-19 pandemic shut everything down and since then no one has picked up the mantle to begin facilitating classes again. I wish someone would as my work schedule is different now and I might actually be able to make some. Better yet would be if they could offer some occasional Zoom classes like Molly’s Gaeilge i mo chroí Patreon group does. I think I mentioned thart on the Language Resources Page.

Then and Now

Well, better as convenience goes but it’s agreed that learning in person is much more effective as it’s easier to get the pronunciations that way than over video. The DFW Gaelic League had offered classes and total immersion weekends going back as far as 2010 according to posts on their website. They also give links to online resources such as the Now You’re Talking Irish videos I am fond of myself. You’ll find them on their website under the links Irish On Your Own. If anyone hears of new activity with this group such as new materials posted, new classes starting, etc. I would be very interested in knowing and perhaps participating!
